PREGNANCY MASSAGE THEREAPY

  • Supporting the physical, physiological and emotional changes in pregnancy across all trimesters, using a combination of clinical aromatherapy, holistic massage, movement, exercise, visualisation and subtle energy.

  • With the idea of bringing balance to the body with the pelvis a key focus, we want you to allow your baby the best chance to position optimally ready for birth.

    With a combination of pregnancy massage therapy, exercise, movement and clinical aromatherapy, we can also support some other common pregnancy related symptoms that may include;

Circulatory system: Headaches, hyper / hypotension, oedema, varicose veins

Digestive system: Nausea, reflux, Indigestion, IBS, haemorrhoids, constipation

Emotional wellbeing : Anxiety, depression, worry, changes in mood & behaviour, postnatal depression

Muscular-skeletal body: CTS, leg cramps, pelvic floor strength / health, sacral discomfort (SPI, PGP), joint or muscular pain / stiffness, diastasis recti (abdominal separation)

  • Our first session together requires additional time so that we can have an in-depth chat about your current health, your medical history including any pregnancy related symptoms you may be suffering with, including a review of your pregnancy medical notes. Together we will agree a focus for your session based on exactly what you need right at that moment. We will also discuss how essential oil therapy can support you, and select the relevant essential oils based on any patterns of disharmony that are evident, making a blend or two. We can also provide bespoke remedies to take home so that you can continue self-care in between sessions.

Depending on our focus for the session work may include; restorative & remedial massage; postural awareness; movement; visualisation, meditation; trimester specific remedial exercises; gentle passive Thai yoga stretches, along with acupressure/ Shiatsu work and reiki to also support your emotional wellbeing.

During trimester 3 we will begin to focus on labour preparation and support exploring powerful relief techniques by stimulating meridian/ acupressure points and birthing positions to prepare you for labour. You can also opt for a specific labour preparation workshop with your birth partner.

During the latter stages of your pregnancy, treatments are better received laying on a specialised shiatsu floor futon. This can assist in more in-depth work to the hips, lower back and sacrum, bringing in pregnancy and birth equipment if appropriate.

Of course, if you have any pelvic instability or pain, we will continue to work on the massage table.

There are many physiological changes during pregnancy and it is therefore really important that we allow time to discuss your health and review your medical notes at every session. The focus will always be on how we can continue to support your overall wellbeing – physically, physiologically and emotionally, discussing any changes to your health and new concerns that may arise in between treatments.

  • Cost: £75 per session.

Duration: Each session will last around 2 hours.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing so that you can be free in your body, should gentle exercise or movement form part of your session.

It is important to ensure you have time to let your body balance and rest after the session, so we would advise against filling your time and booking in lots to do.

SUPPORTING BABY’S POSITION

  • Your baby loves to have a move around in your womb, but there may be a number of reasons they may not be in an ideal position during the later stages of pregnancy. This could be linked to your own pelvic symmetry, existing uterine pathologies, ligaments or muscles that are tight, your general posture, and even your emotional wellbeing.

If you find that at 34 week’s gestation your midwife has suggested your baby is not in an ideal position (for example in a breech position), we can work together to give your baby the opportunity to assume better one on their own, without opting for an ECV (External Cephalic Version).

There are many techniques we will use together to support balance of your body, which will in turn support how your baby is able to move. Techniques will also include those based on the Spinning Babies philosophy.

Of course, if you come for pregnancy massage, you will find that we will use a lot of these techniques right from the early stages of trimester 2, in order to support your body and baby’s position from the start.

  • We will start with an initial online consultation, which we will then go through together in the session. It is important that together we can identify where there may be any physical disharmonies present.

Sessions will be quite ‘active’, where we are working to balance your physical body through positions, passive stretches, and releasing techniques.

You should only need one session, as the intention is for you to continue some of the techniques at home (if needed).

Ideally your birthing partner will come along too, so that they can learn and support some of the techniques, but this is not a requirement.

  • Cost: £75 per session (payable by card or bank transfer)

Duration: Sessions will last 1hour 30 mins (of which around 20 minutes is allocated to the consultation review)
