The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.

POSTNATAL BODYWORK

  • In many cultures, women are expected to rest with their newborns for the first 40-days after birth – in the past, particularly in Eastern traditions this time stretched to one whole year. Time for the body to heal, to bond, and time to start a new journey with your baby. We seem to have lost sight of these traditions but it still remains a very important part of our own healing and path into parenthood.

Baba & Belly provides a nurtured space; a space to let go, a space to be listened to, and a space for you to listen to your own body and mind in a secure environment.

Together we will look at your entire-self; your physical, emotional, physiological and spiritual body, and if we have not supported you before, it is really important for us to understand your journey through pregnancy and birth so that we can support you wholly.

As a new mum we understand the commitments and limitations to your time, so we very much encourage you to bring your baby with you to a session if you want to. It is as much a time for you to bond with your baby, as it is to allow yourself to be healed and have focus to your needs. But of course many women want this time just for them, so coming on your own is just as perfect.

  • There seems to be an enormous amount of pressure for new parents to miraculously continue living life but with the addition of a new baby in tow. For many, this could have been an incredibly long and difficult journey getting to this point, with another new journey waiting ahead.

You deserve time and space to heal, to reconnect with yourself and your experience, and to also bond with your baby.

The postnatal sessions are a combination of postnatal massage to help relieve any physical trauma from birth, (including specific techniques to support scarring from birth intervention), balance of the body through postural awareness, and mindful holistic techniques to support your new role as a new mother.

Your endocrine system is still adapting to many changes after birth, the use of bespoke clinical aromatherapy will be used to support balance of hormones, physical trauma & wound healing, and support to your emotional health.

  • Holistic care that we may explore together to support your postnatal healing journey may include:

Closing the bones –using rebozos, wrapping and gentle pulsing to support energetic, physical and emotional closing of the antenatal body.

Scar massage – specific scar massage, myofascial techniques and clinical aromatherapy to support cesarean section healing.

Bodywork – through holistic massage, gentle exercise and postural awareness, supporting physical healing and balance.

Clinical aromatherapy – to gently support emotional wellness (anxiety, postnatal depression, worry, panic or changes in mood), and physical birth healing (i.e., perineal and vaginal healing)

  • Cost: £80 per session.

Duration: Each session will last between 1hr 45mins – 2 hours.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing so that you can be free in your body, should gentle exercise or movement form part of your session.

It is important to ensure you have time to let your body balance and rest after the session, so we would advise against filling your time and booking in lots to do.

POSTNATAL PULSING

  • Pulsing is often described as “The Tai Chi of massage”

Holistic pulsing is an integrative form of bodywork that allows you to increase your sensitivity to your body and engage in a process of dynamic re-patterning of body, mind and soul.

This Reichian bioenergetic bodywork helps you connect to your embodied self, release physical tension and emotional stress, let go of old patterns and discover a more authentic way of being. It is perhaps unique in the field of somatics in being touch-based, movement-based and emotion-focussed.

Pulsing is a body-mind centred approach, using the power of gentle rhythmic touch and continuous movement of the whole body, rather than manipulation of soft tissue, allowing connection with the skeletal system to improve mobility and movement, and to encourage release of both the superficial holding of everyday muscular tension and the chronic holding of body armour.

The wave-like rhythm brings a sense of ease and flow, encouraging you to accept support and nurturing, to surrender to the motion and release habitual control of the body's natural impulses.

  • Pulsing has many benefits on both the physical and psychological body, boosting energy levels and your sense of fun and aliveness; at the same time it is profoundly relaxing, deeply nurturing and supportive.

Psychologically it can help change old patterns, as the softening of body armour and the release of energy allows transformation to occur gently and naturally. For this reason people are often drawn to Pulsing at times of transition in their lives

  • Sessions will begin with an initial 30 minute consultation, to understand your pregnancy and postnatal journey, so that you can be supported holistically and individually.

The session itself is a clothed session, therefore comfortable non-restrictive clothing is best so that your body is free to move as it needs to. And as with pregnancy massage, your position will be in a side-lying position.

Pulsing is a whole body sequence of joint manipulation to encourage skeletal stretching, which challenges the muscles to soften and lengthen to conform to the changed skeletal pattern, assisted by some soft-tissue manipulation in key areas. This takes place within a matrix of shifting patterns of rhythmic, rocking motions that encourage the body to re-experience its innate movement potential. A baseline rhythm is set that is close the heart rate of the baby in the womb; this soft, sometimes almost hypnotic movement connects to our inner depths and brings echoes of a time when we were completely supported and nurtured.

For most of the session your body will be rocked in this way, the speed will vary depending on whether there is a need for it to be more nurturing or more energising. Arms and legs may be moved, lifted, rotated, stretched or bounced to encourage mobility. There is an emphasis on freeing the head and neck, helping the spine become more flexible and releasing deep-seated tension in the chest and diaphragm, to encourage relaxed and deeper breathing.

During the session, you will be encouraged to surrender into the movement and connect with your own breath and awareness to the pulse of your body, reconnecting to your own self after the birth of your baby.

As you relax, sometimes the whole body will spontaneously yield and ride the wave of flowing movement.
